Mediterranean & Greek island aesthetic: 2026’s trending summer design inspiration

Mediterranean vacation style never really goes away, but right now it’s having a real moment. Pinterest’s own trend tracker currently lists “Greek Isle aesthetic” among the platform’s top trending searches this summer — described as “the summer odyssey we’re all dreaming about: blue water, golden light, and endless inspiration for your next Mediterranean escape.” A couple of years ago, everyone was obsessed with Italy’s La Dolce Vita mood. This year, the pendulum has swung to Greece.

I love Greece with my whole heart. My husband and I have visited the island of Corfu seven times. For me it’s also a callback to childhood — I grew up reading Gerald Durrell’s trilogy about his years on Corfu, so this aesthetic runs deep for me personally, and it shows up in my work constantly.

What does “Greece” actually mean in design — and how is it different from Italian Dolce Vita?

In a few words: Italy is more polished and refined, Greece is closer to everyday life. Italy is lemons and tomatoes. Greece is olives and tomatoes, and a lot of coffee. The two moods are close cousins, but they feel quite different.

If you’ve ever spent time in Greece, you know the vibe immediately — rough, heavily textured plaster walls, an abundance of blue and white, small hits of yellow and gold, tiles with Mediterranean patterns everywhere, big clay vases and jugs used as decor. The food is delicious but simple. People are warm and always ready to talk or help. The beaches go on forever, and the sea is warm — exactly the thing you find yourself missing once the vacation is over.

This style is built on natural materials, abundant light, bougainvillea, and coastal scenery.

Color palette: A base of white paired with deep shades of blue. Accents of sea-green, ochre, and terracotta are welcome.

Textures and finishes: Rough plaster walls, whitewash, natural stone or bleached wood flooring, ceramic tile — often carrying classic Mediterranean patterns.

Furniture: Simple, often substantial handmade wooden pieces, woven rattan elements, wrought iron.

Lighting: As much natural light as possible, sheer linen or cotton curtains that let the sun through.

Decor: Seashells, ceramic jugs and vases, dried flowers, potted plants (olive trees especially), blue-and-white textiles.

Architectural shapes: Curved archways, church domes, stepped transitions, the rough texture of lime plaster.

Geometry and patterns: Classic meander borders, mosaic-style motifs, stylized olive branches and seashells.
